Style for Life

It's all the rage in Hollywood, New York and Miami Beach – celebrities and non-celebrities alike are drawn to fashion and products that satisfy more than their desire to shop. They’re pulled to fashion and products that give back to the community.

One such product that is rapidly growing in popularity is the footwear created by TOMS Shoes. Last year TOMS provided shoes for 50,000 impoverished children in South Africa, as well as thousands of pairs to children in various other countries.

Thanks to Adora, a new jewelry and accessory boutique opening soon at the quaint new Shoppes on Broadway, Edmond’s getting into the charitable spirit. Much like TOMS, Adora has created its own brand of fashion with a purpose with its "Style for Life" campaign.

"Style for Life" is more than a slogan – it’s a program that provides food for hungry children. When Adora shoppers purchase a necklace, for example, the boutique provides a meal for a hungry child. Adora also assists local non profit groups in their fund-raising efforts. Clubs hold fund-raising shopping events after hours and a portion of the proceeds benefit the organization.

"We've always wanted to do something like this," says co-owner McKenzie Ross, "We were inspired by the TOMS mission, and realized there was no reason we couldn’t do something similar. It's so easy to provide so much to children across the world."

Family-owned, Adora’s sensitivities to the plight of others reflects the whole family’s values. Gary and Leslie Mason, along with their daughter McKenzie and son-in-law Clete Ross, sought to make a difference when they opened Adora – a dream they developed as previous owners of Zida.

McKenzie, her sister Macy, and Leslie spent the past several months focusing on tailoring the new store's inventory to meet their customers’ needs. They found gorgeous and unique handbags and put together a collection that ranges from hippy chic to classic evening and everything in between.

"We also shopped for unique jewelry pieces, styles we haven't seen elsewhere," Leslie explains, “We love meeting our customer's needs and wants.”

The team also hopes to cater to a broader range of clientele. Teens, young professionals and the more mature crowd should all be able to find something they will love at Adora. "We want it to be a place where moms and daughters and grandmothers and granddaughters can all shop together," Leslie says.

"It's important to us that our customers don't have to break the bank to have nice jewelry and accessories,” says McKenzie. “And yet, we want the ladies that come into our store to have a special experience.”

Special indeed. Adora is 2,000 square feet brimming with the treasures women love, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, purses, wallets, belts, shoes and more. The modern, clean and crisp décor affords the perfect shopping environment.
